Infrastructure releases new position paper on Component Type Approvals

The Department of Infrastructure has just released a position paper on Component Type Approval — Test Reports not completed by an RVS Approved Testing Facility’ and a revised guide to component type approvals.

The paper outlines the circumstances under which the Department will accept a declaration from a component supplier along with testing results from testing facilities that are no longer in existence as an alternative means of obtaining a component type approval.

HVIA’s National Manager Policy and Government Relations Greg Forbes said industry had significant concerns over the potential costs of the previous proposal on the transition arrangements from the existing Component Registration Numbers (CRNs) and Sub Assembly Registration Numbers to the new Component Type Approvals.

“HVIA has been working with the Department for over a year to try and find a better way of managing the transition,” Mr Forbes said.

“I am pleased the Department has outlined a framework for using test data from these older testing facilities as evidence.

“This provides us with a way forward on this important issue.”

HVIA will attend a virtual meeting on the new position paper in the next few weeks and will be contacting the RVSA working group for comments.
