Reflections: Here’s to the year ahead

HVIA Chief Executive Todd Hacking has written to members reflecting on 2019-20 and outlining HVIA’s year ahead.

Dear Members

We hope that every member has noticed the power and value of being part of a collective industry association during times like these.

Early in the pandemic there was a real and present risk the Australian government would go the way of New Zealand in completely shutting down the economy, including HVIA members.

Our advocacy on your behalf was crucial to ensure that common-sense prevailed and many were able to continue to trade.

We hope that our regular ‘Member Advice’ emails assisted you with timely and relevant information as the situation unfolded.

HVIA was instrumental in the extension of the Instant Asset Write Off Scheme (IAWO) which the Federal Government recently announced would be extended until the 31st December 2020.

In addition, we were one of the chief policy architects behind the 50% bonus depreciation stimulus measure, which sits alongside it.

These measures provide unprecedented support for operators to invest in new equipment and upgrade their fleet.

We also recently met with the National COVID-19 Coordination Commission (NCCC) to ensure we harness the goodwill towards Australian manufacturers and sought opportunities for HVIA members.

Later in the year we will launch our first online heavy vehicle learning course and share our improved technologies with members.

We see this as an amazing opportunity to educate and inform industry personnel in an efficient way that saves you time and money.

In addition, plans for the Brisbane Truck Show (BTS) are well advanced.

The show is fully allocated, and many exhibitors are sharing their enthusiasm to participate in May 2021.

We may need to make subtle changes to protect exhibitors and attendees as a result of new ‘mass gathering’ regulations but we are well prepared and confident the BTS will be a launch pad for the industry as we enter a new post-COVID era.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We exist to assist and support our members.

If you wish to discuss your membership or provide me with feedback, please give me a call.

Kind Regards

Todd Hacking
HVIA Chief Executive
