HVIA congratulates ATA’s retiring Chair Geoff Crouch

HVIA has welcomed the election of South Australian trucking operator David Smith as the new Chair of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) after the AGM today.

HVIA Chief Executive Todd Hacking said Mr Smith will have big shoes to fill following the retirement of Geoff Crouch.

“Geoff has been a tireless advocate and a formidable leader for the road transport industry over many years.

“It has been a pleasure to work closely with Geoff, ATA CEO Ben Maguire and their team across numerous issues.

“Last year Geoff joined HVIA President John Drake to sign an MoU for our organisations to work closely in our advocacy efforts with Government.

“The fruits of that relationship have borne out in many ways, and are in action right now as we work together to seek an extension to the stimulus measures announced to counter the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“We look forward to continuing that constructive relationship with David. He is taking the reins with ATA in very good shape.”

David Smith is President of the Livestock and Rural Transporters Association of South Australia, and former President of the Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association.

Today’s ATA Annual General Meeting also saw long-standing Director and Past-Chair Kathy Williams AM retire from the ATA Board.

Ms Williams was Chair of the ATA from 2000-2002 and was its Treasurer until 2014. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2015 for her many years of service to the industry and the community.

Two new directors were elected to the ATA board, Scott Davidson, Chairman of the NatRoad and Craig Smith-Gander, Chair of the Western Roads Federation.
